White
willow has many properties namely: anodyne, antiseptic, astringent,
diaphoretic, diuretic, febrifuge, and tonic.
White willow is the oldest recorded
analgesic, or painkiller, in human history. It is known as a "herbal
aspirin" and is a potent natural healer. It contains salicin
which the body converts to salicylic acid and is a chemical relative
of the compound used to make aspirin. It may be used for all aches
and pains, fevers, inflammation, sore muscles, rheumatism and chills.
Aspirin and related anti-inflammatory drugs are notorious for irritating
or damaging the stomach. White willow is, therefore, an effective
natural alternative without such side effects.
Studies have found white willow is
effective for back pain and osteoarthritis. It is also used for
bursitis, dysmenorrhoea, tension headaches, migraine headaches,
earache, tendinitis, neuralgia, sciatica, toothache, arthritis,
menstrual cramps, gout and angina.
White willow may also enhance weight
loss in combination with other ingredients and is often included
in dietary supplements as an adjunct for weight loss.
White willow may also be used and
for treating warts, bunions and corns.
